Talking Rubbish

Online performance commissioned by Spark Arts in 2020.

Talking Rubbish was created during Lockdown for distribution across the Among Ideal Friends network.

Meet Charlotte the Excavator. She loves Talking Rubbish, it’s her favourite subject.

Join her as she digs around at home, sorting through her rubbish. You’ll also meet her fellow Excavators Mohsen and Aya who share her passion for finding treasure in what other people throw away. You’ll be amazed at the friends they make in this wonderful world of Rubbish.

In Episode 1 Charlotte is always holding on to her rubbish, never knowing what to do with it all. She asks her fellow Excavators Mohsen and Aya for help, but they are too busy with their new friend: a rather unusual looking and very playful dog.

Robot Boy Film

Short film created from the original stage production at Schauspielhaus Bochum, Germany 2019.

We received fantastic feedback from family and school audiences who came to see the show in Bochum but unfortunately, the venue had to temporarily close due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic and so the run of performances ended soon after it had started.

As we were unable to present live work during lockdown in 2020, we wanted to explore how we could share our work digitally with audiences and one of the projects we worked on was the creation of this film which was edited by Gav Wood from footage of the original stage production.

As the original production was performed in German, we used English text to support the narrative of Robot Boy’s story, alongside an adapted music score by the show’s Composer, Jessica Dannheisser.

To date, the film has been screened at:

Festival of Curiosity, Dublin

Hullabaloo! Offaly’s Children’s Festival

Brewhouse Taunton

Croucher Science Week, Hong Kong

Puppet Animation Scotland

Cork Puppetry Festival

Norwich Science Festival

Beijing International Puppet Festival

Yorkshire Festival of Story

PuppetOscope – India’s 1st International Puppet Film Festival
