Sue is a director, dramaturg and puppetry expert and the fourth generation of theatre practitioners in her family. In 1996 she co-directed Theatre-Rites’ first production Houseworks with founder Penny Bernand and under Sue’s artistic leadership Theatre-Rites has consistently supported a range of artforms to develop an infrastructure for work created for young audiences.
Sue is in demand as a dramaturg and teacher, and when timing permits, she is happy to support the development of new work with a particular focus on supporting female and diverse artists. She has an MA in Contemporary Theatre Practice from Essex University, which included a thesis on The Psychoanalytic Study of the Power of the Puppet. In 2018 Essex University awarded her an honorary Doctorate for her contribution to theatre. Sue has created eight theatre shows and eight site-specific shows for Theatre-Rites. She has been Artistic Director since 2001.
